Dovecote Studio is a mind-blowing piece of architecture by Haworth Tompkins. Part of the Aldeburgh Music campus in Suffolk they literally dropped the modern timber structure inside the crumbling exterior of an old dovecote (a domesticated pigeon shelter). What most people would have bulldozed, particularly due to what I can only image would be a truckload of poop, these guys saw to exploit as an arresting design feature. This is my kind of architecture...

  1. i love this. a lot. i have an affinity for crumbling buildings and i love that someone took the time to incorporate one into a new design rather than destroying and starting over. it looks great.
